Cool Mod Rocker

It seems like my obsessions are hi-chairs, rocking chairs and bassinets...it is true.
CHeck out this super swet Mod Rocker from IglooPlay
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

U.S. Design Patented. Awarded Honorable Mention, 2006 I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review. This rocking chair will appeal to a child's interest in movement as well as scale, organic form, material variation and color. The form and material invite kids to play, read or simply relax. As research indicates that children often fidget in stationary chairs, the rocker's design provides a personal space rather than just a mere chair. The chair gives an easy rock to mellow children, provides comfort while reading or playing and the space below is a secret nook to store stuffed animals. The form is wide and low to the ground, inspired by West African stools that cup the body and that are considered to be highly personal objects. The sculptural form of the Mod Rocker™ is an aesthetic addition to any room in the home... and of course, kids will love being included in the family space.

You can buy it on ModernTots for $285

AGE appropriate

I think I found THE coolest hi-chair.
Genevieve Grenier was showing the first of hopefully many product to come from AGE Design out of Canada:: the HiLo kids chair.

This chair works for kids 6 months to 6 years as the innovative design actually provides 2 chairs and different heights and widths to accomodate your growing child. It has a molded plastic seat with wildcherry wood legs and comes in 4 cool colors:: Asparagus, Carrot, Portobello and Raspberry and retails for $425 (CND) I am not sure who will be the first in the US to carry it but I did see that Design Public had stopped by their booth so perhaps look for it there!

Cool thing about getting your own? Their brochure says that you can recycle the shipping box to be used as a child's playhouse!

My Most Favorite

My very most favorite from the ICFF show is the iAhn Bassinet. Designed for his new baby, YiAhn, Min - an industrial designer created this sweet baby keeper.

The coolest thing about this bassinet is that it can become a toy bin and bookshelf or a chair and table.

Not cheap at $2000 and produced on demand you'll be sure to have a uber-hip unique baby item should you splurge on your new baby or your favorite blogger's new baby ((hint..hint))

INMODERN

I met two great guys at the ICFF who own INMODERN - a design firm based in Indianapolis and spent a bunch of time talking with Scott Willy about his sustainable furniture ((Hi Scott))
They have a small line of children's furniture called ECOTOTS - my favorite of which is their table and 4 stool set.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Currently in a reddish color (fire) and a lime green (leaf) the word is all sourced in the US and is birch. 100% formaldehyde free so there is no off-gassing! ((if you don't know what off-gassing is...google it immediately!))

The furniture comes flat packed and is assembled without tools...Daddy will be thrilled.

ICFF

I just got back from a day well spent in NYC walking BOTH the National Stationery Show and the International Contemporary Furniture Fair...I am wiped out but so, so inspired. Look this week for posts with photos of new wares from Argington, Nurseryworks, EcoTots. Oeuf among other less recognizable names. Everyone I met today was SUPER friendly.

For now I will leave you with my favorite new paper people:: WILEY VALENTINE. New baby's birth annoucements will be coming from here...I am in love with their style.

Their site is in flash so I can't grab any photos to show you...but CLICK HERE...you won't be disappointed.

Cool Seating

Working on designing the new nursery for baby #2 though I am thinking of just using all of Henry's stuff and giving him the fun new room. He'll still need a crib but the nursing rocking chair will need to go into the new nursery.

Some options for seating for the big kid room:

I am leaning towads a big FatBoy...something to snuggle on, read on or turn into a pretend dinosaur/airplane/rocket ship
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
$229

Or I could ust move his red OFFI rocker up to his room though I think the scale is off
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
$99

I could also buy a shell rocker so we'd have a place to read together before bedtime...though it doesn't seem too comfortable for my big pregnant tush

$349

Have any suggestions?

Baby Care

Henry has super duper sensitive skin...I love the Weleda products for him.
But what to do about sunblock?

There is Chemical Free Sunblock SPF 30+
70% Organic and Hypo-Allergenic

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Earth's Best Organic protects baby's delicate skin from the sun with this SPF 30+ Chemical Free, Fragrance Free Sunblock created by JASON. This hypo-allergenic sun block is extra mild and safe for use on babies and sensitive adults. Enriched with Beta Glucan, Oat Oil and Lavender Extract this sun block not only protects but soothes.

Or California Baby's Sun Stick

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Pop this convenient PABA free, non-chemical, fragrance-free sunblock stick into your pocket, purse or diaper bag. The whole family will love this easy-to-use stick that gives those "hot spots" a boost of extra protection. Our non-chemical sunblock stick employs a highly micronized, non-whitening titanium dioxide that scatters and reflects dangerous UV rays, offering UVA-UVB broad-spectrum protection. Non-staining formula. It glides on smoothly for easy application. May be used in combination with our SPF30+ sunscreen lotions.

We like Baby Organic Sunscreen SPF 18 by Avalon for partly shady days since it is only SPF 18

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It is a certified organic sunscreen. This non-greasy cream protects vulnerable skin with effective titanium dioxide, a natural UVA/UVB reflective barrier.

Which sunscreen do you like for your baby?
