Baby Travels

I dream about being able to travel with the boys...showing them the world.
But I dread the temper tantrums out of boredom, the incessant kicking of the seats of the passengers in front of them and the dirty looks we'll get boarding the plane.
I have such a great attitude -- don't I?

But what makes me hopeful is this sweet little bag from FLT 001

I dont do glider.

Teddy is due in 48 days (but who is counting???)
We have the nursery pretty well set up and stocked.
We used Henry's old crib and dresser bought a new modern lamp which is on an old short bookcase on which I placed a round piece of glass and plain white tablecloth.
And...we borrowed a glider from a friend.

The husband didn't want to shell out any more money on cool nursery stuff as we are moving next spring and the boys rooms will get re-do's at that point anyhow.

However, I just can't get into the glider thing.
Henry tipped it over trying to climb into it so I don't feel like it is really safe first of all. Secondly, I am so in love with Henry's Sleepytime rocker from Nurseryworks that I want the same for Teddy.

It was the most comfortable nursing chair and now it seats us both comfortably for storytime before bed. I like it better than their "storytime rocker" as the back is higher and more comfortable for my head while late-night nursing.

I met Kay (one of the owners of Nurseryworks) at the ICFF in NY in May and she couldn't have been nicer. She did mention that if I was looking to buy stuff for the new nursery to contact her directly for better pricing. If I could shave off a few pennies then maybe the husband will let me splurge for another rocker.

It truly is gorgeous - dontchathink?

Baby Names

2 blips on baby names today.

1. Head over to GAWKER today where they will post the finalists in the Pretentious Baby Names contest. Personally I am really sick of people thinking they are rock stars when they name their kiddos. What ever happened to Lisa and Brian as names? Now it is Blakely, Danforth, Pemberly, Chardonnay, and Kant. I find it rather annoying.

2. If you are currently pregnany without a name for your little one may I suggest Henry (tee-hee-hee...or Teddy!) no seriously, NYMBLER Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
may help you find what you are looking for. You click on names you like and from there the name finder suggests more names.

Names I like besides Teddy: Vaughn, Oliver, Thane...though they are all a little too trendy for me.

Kaboost

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Children want to be just like mom and dad and their older brothers and sisters. They reach a point where they no longer want to sit in a high chair or booster seat for "babies" anymore. In fact, many children would rather sit on their knees and eat rather than use a booster seat.

KABOOST's spring-loaded arms grip chair legs into place and elevate the chair so your child can sit at the table just like you. With KABOOST, the entire dining experience is enhanced for both child and family.

Wonderful Graffiti

The good folks at WONDERFUL GRAFFITI sent me a sample of their cool room decor that they call "the art of interior typography." If you are looking for a way to spruce up your nursery or playroom these removable vinyl tansfers could be your answer. I think they are the fresher answer to those wooden nursery letters everyone uses to spell out their child's name.

Start here for some of their best a brightest ideas.

They also will print your design on canvas or make them 3-D for wall hangings in your choice of typography.

Their whole site is in flash so I can snag a photo for you...you'll havew to trust me that it is worth checking out at http://secure.wonderfulgraffiti.com/

Alex's Lemonade Stand

Our new partnership with the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation folks is off to a great start. Hip Kid Art has created this lemon tree canvas
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
with 100% of our profits going to the foundation.

What is the foundation for, you ask?

In 2000, a 4 year old cancer patient named Alexandra "Alex" Scott announced a seemingly simple idea -she was holding a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for kids with cancer. The idea was put into action by Alex and her older brother, Patrick, when they set up the first "Alex's Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer" on their front lawn in July of 2000.

For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses, and organizations, all to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer. On August 1st, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 -- she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research in her short lifetime.

Alex's spirited determination to raise awareness and money for all childhood cancer while she bravely fought her own deadly battle with cancer has inspired thousands of people, from all walks of life to raise money and give to her cause. Alex's family and supporters are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501c3 charity. As of June 2007, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $12 million for childhood cancer research. The result -- Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has given millions of dollars for childhood cancer research across the country!

Check out their LOOKBOOK - a mini-fashion spread of Hip Kid's Gear.

This is how they describe themselves:
The truth is, there’s no shortage of cool clothes and hip furnishings for little ones on the market now. And you can find them in plenty of stores and on an ever increasing number of websites and catalogues. What you aren’t seeing is web design that’s aggressive in nature. That brings the art and perspective of your favorite fashion or interiors magazine to the online marketplace. A place where you’ll find unique and fresh content, fun and anecdotal features, interesting photography and cutting edge technology. A place that brings you all the latest in apparel, décor and design, and then wraps it in an imaginative package.

Check out this tree house bed

This fun tree house bed is made by Life Time, a kids furniture company from Denmark. Their philosophy is that furnishing a child’s room involves more than just picking out a cheerful colour. All their products are made with traditional craftsmanship by skilled carpenters from the Danish furniture factory M. Schack Engel A/S. They use high-quality and durable products, safe materials and a sturdy construction. All Life Time products are fashioned of durable pinewood from controlled forests. The varnishes and stains used for the finish are water-based and environmentally friendly. Check out their website to see all their designs. My favourite is definitely the tree house bed!

Cool Mod Rocker

It seems like my obsessions are hi-chairs, rocking chairs and bassinets...it is true.
CHeck out this super swet Mod Rocker from IglooPlay
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

U.S. Design Patented. Awarded Honorable Mention, 2006 I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review. This rocking chair will appeal to a child's interest in movement as well as scale, organic form, material variation and color. The form and material invite kids to play, read or simply relax. As research indicates that children often fidget in stationary chairs, the rocker's design provides a personal space rather than just a mere chair. The chair gives an easy rock to mellow children, provides comfort while reading or playing and the space below is a secret nook to store stuffed animals. The form is wide and low to the ground, inspired by West African stools that cup the body and that are considered to be highly personal objects. The sculptural form of the Mod Rocker™ is an aesthetic addition to any room in the home... and of course, kids will love being included in the family space.

You can buy it on ModernTots for $285

AGE appropriate

I think I found THE coolest hi-chair.
Genevieve Grenier was showing the first of hopefully many product to come from AGE Design out of Canada:: the HiLo kids chair.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This chair works for kids 6 months to 6 years as the innovative design actually provides 2 chairs and different heights and widths to accomodate your growing child. It has a molded plastic seat with wildcherry wood legs and comes in 4 cool colors:: Asparagus, Carrot, Portobello and Raspberry and retails for $425 (CND) I am not sure who will be the first in the US to carry it but I did see that Design Public had stopped by their booth so perhaps look for it there!

Cool thing about getting your own? Their brochure says that you can recycle the shipping box to be used as a child's playhouse!

My Most Favorite

My very most favorite from the ICFF show is the iAhn Bassinet. Designed for his new baby, YiAhn, Min - an industrial designer created this sweet baby keeper.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The coolest thing about this bassinet is that it can become a toy bin and bookshelf or a chair and table.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Not cheap at $2000 and produced on demand you'll be sure to have a uber-hip unique baby item should you splurge on your new baby or your favorite blogger's new baby ((hint..hint))

INMODERN

I met two great guys at the ICFF who own INMODERN - a design firm based in Indianapolis and spent a bunch of time talking with Scott Willy about his sustainable furniture ((Hi Scott))
They have a small line of children's furniture called ECOTOTS - my favorite of which is their table and 4 stool set.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Currently in a reddish color (fire) and a lime green (leaf) the word is all sourced in the US and is birch. 100% formaldehyde free so there is no off-gassing! ((if you don't know what off-gassing is...google it immediately!))

The furniture comes flat packed and is assembled without tools...Daddy will be thrilled.

Please check them out at www.inmodern.net or click HERE

Look this week for posts with photos of new wares from Argington, Nurseryworks, EcoTots. Oeuf among other less recognizable names. Everyone I met today was SUPER friendly.

For now I will leave you with my favorite new paper people:: WILEY VALENTINE. New baby's birth annoucements will be coming from here...I am in love with their style.

Their site is in flash so I can't grab any photos to show you...but CLICK HERE...you won't be disappointed.
